Archival metadata standards
Common standards
Archives are frequently described using these Standards:
- DACS (Describing Archives: A Content Standard): Description of archive on multiple levels of detail., see in particular Relation to Other Standards
- ISAD(G) (General International Standard Archival Description)
- EAD (Encoded Archival Description); current version: EAD3
- EAC-CPF Encoded Archival Context - for describing corporate bodies, persons, and families, maintained by Society of American Archivists and Berliner Staatsbibliothek is a standard for encoding contextual information about persons, corporate bodies, and families related to archival materials using Extensible Markup Language (XML); can be used on its own, or as extension to others. (Probably less relevant to us.)
Notes
- DACS requires a minimum of descriptive fields, out of 25 in total; own fields can be added
- DACS can be exported to EAD or MARC21
- EAC-CPF seems to be frequentyl use in German-speakng areasscheint im deutschen Sprachraum häufig verwendet zu werden (für Organisationen, Personen, Familien); in v2.0 (2018) it was aligned to EAD
